Visit to Yangon Heritage Trust Offices

On Monday 27 January 2014, I visited the offices of the Yangon Heritage Trust.  As a long-time member of the National Trust (NSW) and a Life-member of the Hunters Hill Trust, I am completely supportive of the attempts by the YHT to protect and preserve the heritage values of Yangon.

An exhibition of historic photos is on display at the Offices of the YHT, 22-24 Pansodan Street, Yangon until February 28th.

As the YHT web site notes:

Established in March 2012, the Yangon Heritage Trust (YHT) is dedicated to the revitalization of Yangon and the betterment of its people by preserving and protecting the city’s unique heritage.

Its mission is to protect and promote Yangon’s rich urban heritage within a cohesive urban plan by advocating for heritage protection and revitalisation of the historic city, advising the government and developers on heritage law and public policy, and undertaking research and public outreach on preservation projects, studies, conferences, and training.

Protection and preservation of cultural heritage is about celebrating our history, including our buildings as immense physical markers of our journey. Heritage preservation helps to create a more livable city, to improve tourism, and to propel Yangon into the future with a clear sense of our history.
