Deputy-Chair, LAWASIA Standing Committee on Environment Law.LAWASIA is the Law Association for Aisa and the Pacific. Each Standing Committee works to promote regional discussion of environmental law issues. Climate Change has been a focus of the work of the Committee over the past 3 years. Justice Brian Preston, Chief Judge of the NSW Land and Environment Court chairs this Committee.
Chair Environment and Planning Law Group, Law Council of Australia (“LCA”). The LCA is the legal professions national representative body. The Environment and Planning Law Group is Australia’s peak body on environmental law reform
Member Compliance and Enforcement Standing Committee, Commission on Environmental Law IUCN (World Conservation Union)
The World Conservation Union is the largest environmental network, including governments and NGOs. One of its standing groups is the Commission on Environmental Law (“CEL”). I work in the compliance and enforcement standing committee. This Commission works on law reform at an international level.
Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand (NSW) Division Steering Committee 2005 – to 2010 (Member since 1992)
I have developed (with Nick Thomas, Partner, Clayton Utz) an Expert Witness Training Program first run in May 2008 in Sydney. Also I worked with the St James Ethics Centre to implement an ethical help line for environmental practitioners launched in October 2007.

Convenor Penalty Notice Group, Environmental Law Roundtable of Australia and New Zealand.
The Roundtable’s aim is to promote the harmonization of laws in Australasia. The Penalty Notice Group prepared a major law reform submission on the use of penalty notices for environmental offences. Submissions and seminars were held and a draft report was published in 2006. The final report was published in January 2008.
President National Environmental Law Association (NSW Division), Member National Executive NELA
NELA is the national multi-disciplinary body for environmental law reform. I have been active in this organisation since 1987, and the NSW President from 2003-2009. NELA runs seminars and workshops on environmental and planning law.
Chair, Vincent Fairfax Fellowship Alumni The Vincent Fairfax Fellowship is a program of the St James Ethics Centre and provides for an 18 month ethical leadership program. I attended this in 2000-2001.

National President Australian Democrats, 2000-2001.Deputy National President, 1997-1998, 1999 -2000 In my 15 year membership of the Australian Democrats I have held other office bearer positions in NSW and nationally and have stood as a candidate on a number of occasions. The Australian Democrats elect a President and two Deputy Presidents for the National Executive by way of an Australia-wide ballot of the entire membership.
